Wolf and Augusta Nelken lived in Poland and had 6 children.: 1. Samuel Nelken, born 1847, Poland, died 1927 2. Isaac Nelken, born 1845, Poland, died pre 1900 3. Solomon Nelken, born Aug. 26, 1860, New York City 4. Ida Nelken (Goldman) 5. Julia Nelken (Levy) 6. Yetta Nelken Samuel came to the U.S., with his brother, Isaac, at the age of 19. They began as peddlers in New York City and work their way south to Natchitoches where they clerked in local stores. In 1872, they established a general store in Natchitoches, LA., near Bayou Amulet. They became so successful that Isaac established a branch store in Provencal. In 1882, another brother, Sol, came to Natchitoches and clerked for Sam until 1883. Sol then purchased Isaac's interest in his store, which did business of $35,000. In 1888, the store burned and Sol returned to New York but Sam continued with his store in Natchitoches. Sol was able to purchase 1,000 acres of valuable land and 1,500 acres of timber land. Samuel married Sarah H. Abram in 1872 at the age of 25. They had 8 children: 1. Augusta 2. Wolf 3. Fannie 4. Abram 5. Emanuel 6. Gettie 7. Lillian 8. Bessie Isaac Nelken, born in 1845 in Poland, was the father of Abraham and William (Willie) Nelken and was the second son of Wolf and Augusta Nelken who lived in Poland. After working with his brother, Samuel, and selling his store to his brother, Sol, he moved with his family to Natchitoches to join in a partnership with his brother-in-law, Harry L. Simon, in the store Lucas-Simon, Inc. Abraham Nelken was Leona Reiman's 1st husband. They were married ion December 3, 1912 at the age of 36, after he had become a prominent physician in New Orleans, LA.
