The Collins Family

Edward James Collins, Jr.’s paternal great grandfather immigrated to the United States from County Cork, Ireland, sometime in the mid-19 th century, after the potato famine, and settled in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a textile and shoe making industrial center.

Ed’s maternal grandmother and her husband, the Rogers, immigrated to the United States in the late 1800s, from the Azores, a group of Portuguese islands and settled in Haverhill, Massachusetts. They had several children, the oldest being Mary Elizabeth Rogers.

Edward James Collins, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Rogers met in college, married and began the Collins family, which consisted of Edward James Collins, Jr. and Elizabeth Collins Davidson.
